THOSE NAÏF GRAFFITI IN KOLKATA

Photography by Ronny Sen

At one time, in Kolkata during elections you saw sharp and witty graffiti everywhere. On the walls, on billboards, at crossroads, below the porticoes. You could find radical comments everywhere, on any subject: from Vietnam to the various conflicts that followed on one another over the years, to all the neo-Imperialist acts of aggression in the world.
Photographer Ronny Sen has been going round the streets and alleys of Kolkata in search of all that lively thinking, but has found no trace.
The murals, almost naïf, have just the names of the candidates and symbols of the political parties. It’s something, in Ronny Sen’s opinion, that points to one precise thing: the lack of wit on the Kolkata political scene.
